Summary

  • Best Hangar Locations: Any in Fort Zancudo
  • Best Hanger Upgrades: None are worth buying at the start
  • Never source via air or use Rooster, always source via land
  • Collect 50 cargo of either Narcotics, Chemicals or Medical Supplies (or alternate between two of them, i.e. 25 Narcotics, 25 Chemicals)
  • Always sell via land, it is a guaranteed single vehicle delivery, with plenty of time to make the rounds.

Introduction
The Hangar was introduced in the Smuggler's Run update, and has come a long way over the last few years. Originally starting as a frustrating business that offered tedious missions, low payout and was not so friendly at all, has become a one of the most lucrative businesses in Grand Theft Auto Online. Since Rockstar introduced land source missions and increase the payout, the Hangar has seen a resurgence. Players who own a Hangar can also customise their helicopters and planes, amongst other things.

Locations and Upgrades
When it comes to locations, it is generally accepted that the best locations for the Hangar are those in Fort Zancudo . For the simple reason that having a hangar allows players to enter the base without gaining a wanted level. If that doesn’t interest you, no worries, the LSIA hangars are perfectly fine. Sourcing and sell missions will take you all over San Andreas, so no one location is going to minimise those times.

Customization Price Description
Hangar Style Free - $320,000 There are nine options, all are purely cosmetic.
Lighting Free - $200,000 You can choose from nine distinct hangar styles, each featuring different colored floor lines, ceiling beams, and lighting aesthetics.
Floor Graphics Free - $200,000 There are nine options, each of varying design. Purely cosmetic.
Office Furniture $100,000 - $280,000 Cosmetic purchase that changes the furniture present.
Living Quarters $235,000 or $375,000 Like others, allows players to spawn and access a wardrobe and bed.
Workshop $1,150,000 Provides the ability to customize aircraft, pricey but worth it.

Sourcing Materials
Akin to the Cargo Warehouses, there are several ways to source crates for the Hangar. The first option is to manually sourcing them, and thanks to updates from Rockstar, this can now be achieved by air and land. Unless you want a bit of variety in your gameplay, always land source as the missions are far quicker and easier.

Land Source
There are several missions types in rotation, and they all generally include going to a location, killing some enemies and returning the cargo to the Hangar. If you can, use your Oppressor MKII, Sparrow, Buzzard or Raiju. It will save you so much time being able to fly to the location, use the on-board weapons to eliminate enemies, collect the cargo and fly back. You may never have to leave the vehicle in some cases.

  • For missions where you have to steal a semi-trailer, you can destroy it to expose the package and take that back to the Hangar instead. Saving time and energy driving the trailer back to your Hangar.
  • The Salvage Crew recovery involves landing in their boat, releasing the cargo into the water, using the submersible to collect it from the sea bed, returning it to land, and then getting the package back to the Hangar. Once back on land, the vehicle can be destroyed, collected and flown back instead.
  • When breaking into warehouses or garages, the shutter's power box is always within the yellow marked zone. Look vertically as it can be sitting on adjacent rooftops.

Crate Bonuses
Collecting a certain amount of credits for each product will apply a profit bonus. This can drastically increase the amount of money that will be made when sold. The table below shows the profit bonus that will be applied to each type of cargo. Therefore, pick one of the Tier 1 products and grind it all the way to 50 crates. By filling your hangar entirely with Tier 1 goods, you trigger the massive 70% bonus, making your $1.5M standard payout become $2,550,000.

  • Tier 1 (Narcotics, Chemicals, Medical Supplies):
    • 25 Crates: 35% Bonus
    • 50 Crates: 70% Bonus
  • Tier 2 (Art, Animal Materials, Jewelry):
    • 10 Crates: 12% Bonus
    • 50 Crates: 60% Bonus
  • Tier 3 (Tobacco & Alcohol, Counterfeit Goods):
    • 25 Crates: 25% Bonus
    • 50 Crates: 50% Bonus

Escape the Cooldown
Alternatively, to escape the 4 minute cool down, you could alternate between two of the Tier one goods. For example, source one Narcotic, then source one Chemical, and repeat until you have 25 crates each. This ensures you’re not waiting on a cool down for the same product type and you get a 35% bonus.

Using Rooster
Updated in the Criminal Enterprises update, players can now call Rooster to source cargo similar to how Lupe does for Cargo Warehouses. His price is $25,000 for 1 random crates every 48 minutes (one in-game day). As the crates are randomly sourced, this could impact on crate bonuses. That is, you could lose the chance of millions of extra dollars if he incorrectly sources a different package type. So in short, don’t waste your money on his services.

Selling Cargo
Always sell via land. It is a guaranteed one vehicle delivery, no matter how full your Hangar is. There are some preferred vehicles over others, but you will have plenty of time to complete each sell mission.

  • If selling in Los Santos, take note that some locations may be underground in the Subway systems. Plan ahead and remember the access points.
The Ratel has poor handling but the mission is a simple five location drop. Three waves of helicopters are also present, but are usually easily avoided.

Is the Hangar worth it in 2026?
Questionable, the Hangar is a great money making business in Grand Theft Auto Online. However, you may want to prioritise other businesses first as sourcing 50 crates of cargo can take upwards of 4-5 hours. Rooster's ability is useless if you are aiming for the cargo bonuses, meaning you need to actively source cargo. Which means you may be neglecting other businesses to facilitate operations here. The advice here is to build your empire up first and then come back to the Hangar and grind for that cool $2,550,000.
